NOTE: The water pump must be removed carefully to prevent damage to the impeller.
Remove the six mounting capscrews from the water pump.
Remove the water pump from the engine.
Remove the water pump out and in a downward direction to clear the dowel pin, and disconnect the water transfer tube attached to the thermostat housing.
The water pump must have a dowel pin locating hole (2) and an oil cooler return passage (1). Engine damage can occur due to lack of coolant flow through the oil cooler if this oil cooler return passage does not exist.
