Verify that INSITE™ is working and that the correct software is being used

Refer to INSITE™ User’s Manual, Bulletin 3885798.

Incorrect datalink adapter being used

Engines using multiple engine synchronization must communicate on J1587. The INLINE I™ adapter must be used to do this.

Battery voltage supply to the electronic control module (ECM) is low, interrupted, or open

Check the battery connections. Refer to Procedure 013-009 and Procedures 019-198 and 019-087 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Fuel Systems and Electronics, B5.9G, C8.3G, L10G-III, Bulletin 3666118.

INSITE™ is addressing the wrong communication port

Select User Options from the System menu. Make sure the INLINE adapter type is set.

Keyswitch is in the OFF position

Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.

Datalink cable is not connected correctly

Check the cable connections. Procedure 013-009 and Procedures 019-198 and 019-087 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Fuel Systems and Electronics, B5.9G, C8.3G, L10G-III, Bulletin 3666118

INLINE adapter (datalink adapter) is not connected to the battery voltage supply

Check the power light on the INLINE™ adapter. If the light is not illuminated, connect the battery voltage to the INLINE™ adapter. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.

OEM engine protection system is active or is malfunctioning

Isolate the OEM engine protection system. Follow the OEM service manuals to check for a malfunction.

Keyswitch circuit is malfunctioning

Check the vehicle, equipment, or vessel keyswitch circuit. Refer to Procedure 019-064 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Fuel Systems and Electronics, B5.9G, C8.3G, L10G-III, Bulletin 3666118.

Fuse(s) malfunctioning

Replace the fuse(s) in the OEM interface harness. Refer to Procedure 019-198 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Fuel Systems and Electronics, B5.9G, C8.3G, L10G-III, Bulletin 3666118.

Datalink circuit is malfunctioning

Check the datalink circuit. Refer to Procedure 019-026 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Fuel Systems and Electronics, B5.9G, C8.3G, L10G-III, Bulletin 3666118.

Moisture in the wiring harness connectors

Dry the connectors with Cummins electronic cleaner, Part Number 3824510.

OEM harness datalink ground wire has open circuit

Check the datalink ground wire for open circuits. Verify the connection to engine ground. Refer to Procedure 019-026 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Fuel Systems and Electronics, B5.9G, C8.3G, L10G-III, Bulletin 3666118 and the OEM service manual.

Electronic control module (ECM) calibration is malfunctioning

Verify the ECM calibration is correct. Check the calibration revision history for applicable fixes to the calibration stored in the ECM. Refer to the calibration history spreadsheet Click here to see ecm_calibration_rev_history.xls

on QuickServe® Online or the INCAL™ CD-ROM. Compare the calibration stored in the ECM with the engine rating and Control Parts List (CPL), Bulletin 4021326 or 4021327. If necessary, recalibrate the ECM. Refer to the appropriate electronic service tool manual and Procedure 019-032 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Fuel Systems and Electronics, B5.9G, C8.3G, L10G-III, Bulletin 3666118.

Electronic control module (ECM) is malfunctioning

Replace the ECM. Refer to Procedure 019-031 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Fuel Systems and Electronics, B5.9G, C8.3G, L10G-III, Bulletin 3666118.
