Engine Speed Signal Mismatch

The engine speed signals from the engine position (camshaft) sensor and the backup engine speed (crankshaft) sensor do not match.

Engine can run rough. Possible poor starting capability.
Engine Speed Sensor and Engine Position Sensor Circuits
SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE

Circuit Description

The crank sensor reports the engine speed and the cam sensor reports the engine position. These two engine rpms must be similar engine values.

Component Location

Use the engine diagrams in Section E for location of engine position sensor and engine speed sensor.

Shop Talk

This fault can occur when the engine speed from the engine position sensor (cam) and engine speed sensor (crank) differ by a specified rpm amount.
