1. Disconnect both the battery negative cables from the batteries. Refer to Battery Cable in Engine Electrical.
2. Remove the upper fan shroud from the radiator.
Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement (Upper) in Engine Cooling.
3. Remove the drive belt from the drive pulleys.
Refer to Drive Belt Replacement (6.5L Drive Belt).
4. Remove the engine cooling fan from the water pump. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement (5.0L, 5.7L and 6.5L) in Engine Cooling.
Important: When performing this service procedure, the air conditioning compressor does not have to be evacuated. Reposition the A/C compressor to the side.
5. Remove the air conditioning compressor from the accessory bracket (if equipped), and position to the side.
6. Remove the idler pulley assembly (if vehicle is not equipped with A/C) from the left accessory bracket. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement.
7. Remove the auxiliary generator if equipped. Refer to Generator Replacement – Auxiliary in Engine Electrical.
8. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
9. Remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
10. Remove the inlet heater hose from the thermostat housing and position out of the way.
11. Remove the thermostat housing crossover from cylinder heads. Refer to Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement in Engine Cooling.
12. Remover the power steering pump from the accessory bracket. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (6.5L) in Power Steering.
13. Remove the bolts from the accessory bracket.
14. Remove the accessory bracket from the engine block.
15. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder and crossover.
