Fuel Delivery Pressure, Primary – High Warning. Pressure is above the engine protection limit.

Progressive power derate increasing in severity from time of alert.

Fuel Pressure Sensor Circuit

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE

Circuit Description

The ECM uses this sensor to monitor the primary fuel pressure into the engine.

Component Location

The fuel pressure sensor is located in the low-pressure regulator housing.

Shop Talk

The fuel pressure sensor is used to detect the high-pressure fuel supplied to the engine from the OEM pressure regulator.

Troubleshooting Steps

STEPS SPECIFICATIONS
STEP 1. Check the fuel pressure.
STEP 1A. Read the fault codes. Fault Code 2119 active?
STEP 1B. Check the primary fuel inlet pressure. Is the pressure lower than specifications for the engine?
STEP 2. Check the Primary Fuel Pressure Sensor.
STEP 2A. Inspect the primary fuel pressure sensor and engine harness connector pins. Dirty or damaged pins?
STEP 2B. Verify the fuel pressure sensor reading. Fuel pressure within five percent?
STEP 3. Clear the fault codes.
STEP 3A. Disable the fault code. Fault Code 2118 inactive?
STEP 3B. Clear the inactive fault codes. All fault codes cleared?

Guided Step 1 – Check the fuel pressure.

Guided Step 1A – Read the fault codes.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch ON
  • Connect the INSITE™ electronic service tool.

Action

Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to read the fault codes.

Guided Step 1B – Check the primary fuel inlet pressure.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch OFF
  • Install a mechanical gauge.

Action

Check the primary fuel inlet pressure.

NOTE: All pressure sensors on the Plus engine are absolute sensors. The below are maximum values:

  • B LPG Engines – 12.8 bar [185 psia]
  • All other gas plus engines – 10.3 bar [150 psia]

Is the pressure lower than specifications for the engine?

YES NO

OEM
not supplying fuel properly. Refer to the OEM service manual for fuel supply troubleshooting.

Guided Step 2 – Check the Primary Fuel Pressure Sensor.

Guided Step 2A – Inspect the primary fuel pressure sensor and engine harness connector pins.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch OFF
  • Disconnect the engine harness from the primary fuel pressure sensor.

Action

Inspect the sensor and engine harness connector pins for the following:

  • Loose connector
  • Corroded pins
  • Bent or broken pins
  • Pushed back or expanded pins
  • Moisture in or on the connector
  • Missing or damaged connector seals
  • Dirt or debris in or on the connector pins
  • Connector shell broken
  • Wire insulation damaged
  • Damaged connector locking tab.

Refer to the circuit diagram or wiring diagram for component pin identification.

For general inspection techniques, refer to Procedure 019-361 (Component Connector and Pin Inspection) in Section 19.

Dirty or damaged pins?

YES NO

Repair or replace the engine harness, or replace the sensor, whichever has the damaged pins.

No Repair

Guided Step 2B – Verify the fuel pressure sensor reading.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch ON
  • Install a mechanical gauge.

Action

Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to verify the fuel pressure.

  • Verify the fuel pressure measurement with a mechanical gauge against the fuel pressure measurement value displayed in INSITE™ electronic service tool.

Fuel pressure within five percent?

YES NO
No Repair

Replace the fuel pressure sensor.
Refer to Procedure 019-188 (Fuel Pressure Sensor) in Section 19.

Guided Step 3 – Clear the fault codes.

Guided Step 3A – Disable the fault code.

Conditions

  • Connect all components
  • Turn keyswitch ON
  • Connect INSITE™ electronic service tool.

Action

Disable the fault code.

  • Start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute
  • Verify that Fault Code 2118 is inactive.

Fault Code 2118 inactive?

YES NO
No Repair

Troubleshooting procedures need to be repeated from the beginning.

Guided Step 3B – Clear the inactive fault codes.

Conditions

  • Connect all components
  • Turn keyswitch ON
  • Connect INSITE™ electronic service tool.

Action

Clear the inactive fault codes.

  • Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to clear the inactive fault codes.
