Fuel Delivery Pressure Low – Primary, Warning

Engine power derate.

Fuel Pressure Sensor Circuit

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE

Circuit Description

The ECM uses this sensor to monitor the primary fuel pressure into the engine.

Component Location

The fuel pressure sensor is located in the low-pressure regulator housing.

Shop Talk

The fuel pressure sensor is used to detect the high-pressure fuel supplied to the engine from the OEM pressure regulator.

Troubleshooting Steps

STEPS SPECIFICATIONS
STEP 1. Check the fault codes.
STEP 1A. Read the fault codes. Fault Code 2119 active?
STEP 2. Check the fuel pressure.
STEP 2A. Is the pressure correct for the platform?
STEP 3. Check the primary fuel pressure sensor.
STEP 3A. Inspect the primary fuel pressure sensor and engine harness connector pins. Dirty or damaged pins?
STEP 3B. Verify the fuel pressure sensor reading. Fuel pressure measurements within five percent?
STEP 4. Clear the fault codes.
STEP 4A. Disable the fault code. Fault Code 2119 inactive
STEP 4B. Clear the inactive fault codes. All fault codes cleared

Guided Step 1 – Check the fault codes.

Guided Step 1A – Read the fault codes.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch ON
  • Connect the INSITE™ electronic service tool.

Action

Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to read the fault codes.

Read the fault codes.

Fault Code 2119 active?

YES NO
No Repair No Repair

Guided Step 2 – Check the fuel pressure.

Guided Step 2A – Manually check the fuel pressure after the high-pressure regulator.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch OFF
  • Install a manual pressure gauge.

Action

Check the primary fuel inlet pressure.

Note: All pressure sensors on the Plus engine are absolute sensors. The below are minimum values.

  • B Gas Plus – 414 kPa [60 psia].
  • B LPG Plus – 276 kPa [40 psia].
  • C and L Gas Plus – 517 kPa [75 psia].

Is the pressure correct for the platform?

YES NO
No Repair

Replace high-pressure regulator. Refer to the OEM service manual.

Guided Step 3 – Check the Primary Fuel Pressure Sensor.

Guided Step 3A – Inspect the primary fuel pressure sensor and engine harness connector pins.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch OFF
  • Disconnect the engine harness from the primary fuel pressor sensor.

Action

Inspect the sensor and engine harness connector pins for the following:

  • Loose connector
  • Corroded pins
  • Bent or broken pins
  • Pushed back or expanded pins
  • Moisture in or on the connector
  • Missing or damaged connector seals
  • Dirt or debris in or on the connector pins
  • Connector shell broken
  • Wire insulation damaged
  • Damaged connector locking tab.

Refer to the circuit diagram or wiring diagram for component pin identification.

For general inspection techniques, refer to Procedure 019-361 (Component Connector and Pin Inspection) in Section 19.

Dirty or damaged pins?

YES NO

Repair or replace the engine harness, or replace the sensor, whichever has the damaged pins.

No Repair

Guided Step 3B – Verify the fuel pressure sensor reading.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch ON
  • Install a mechanical gauge.

Action

Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to verify the fuel pressure.

  • Verify the fuel pressure measurement with a mechanical gauge against the fuel pressure measurement value displayed in INSITE™ electronic service tool.

Fuel pressure within five percent?

YES NO
No Repair

Guided Step 4 – Clear the fault codes.

Guided Step 4A – Disable the fault code.

Conditions

  • Connect all components
  • Turn keyswitch ON.

Action

Disable the fault code.

  • Start the engine and let it idle for 1 minute.
  • Verify that Fault Code 2119 is inactive.

Fault Code 2119 inactive?

YES NO
No Repair

Troubleshooting procedures need to be repeated from the beginning.

Guided Step 3B – Clear the inactive fault codes.

Conditions

  • Connect all components
  • Turn keyswitch ON.

Action

Clear the inactive fault codes.

  • Use INSITE™ electronic service tool to clear the inactive fault codes.

All fault codes cleared?
