Fuel, even direct from the supplier, is never completely free of impurities. All fuels and lubricating oils are contaminated to some degree. Manufacturers supply fuels to international standards, but impurities can be introduced both in its handling and storage and in the boat’s fuel system itself.
Fuel supplied to marine retail outlets in Europe is normally gas oil, dyed to distinguish it from automotive diesel (DERV), which is manufactured to a higher specification. This is not normally a problem, but if you have any doubt about your engine’s ability to run on marine diesel, refer to the manufacturer.
