These pads are used to clean carbon from the upper liner bores, removing rust and corrosion from the engine block and parts, scuffing surfaces prior to painting and removing burrs from aluminum and other soft metals. These hand cleaning pads are superior to emery cloth or sandpaper, which can inadvertently embed in the metal parts being cleaned.
