  1. The lubricating oil and lubricating oil filter interval can be adjusted based on fuel consumption, gross vehicle weight, and idle time. Reference the Oil Drain Intervals table in this procedure.
  2. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance procedures for the starter, alternator, generator, batteries, electrical components, engine brake, exhaust brake, charge air cooler, air compressor, air conditioner compressor, and fan clutch. Refer to Procedure 203-001 (Component Manufacturer’s Addresses) in Section M for addresses and telephone numbers.
  3. Perform maintenance at whichever interval occurs first. At each scheduled maintenance interval, perform all previous maintenance checks which are due for scheduled maintenance.
  4. Test SCA concentration level every six months, unless concentration is over three units; then check at every oil drain interval until concentration is below three units.
  5. If equipped with Centinel™ system, filter change interval is 121,000 kilometers [75,000 miles].
  6. (For transit buses only) Perform this maintenance procedure at 4,000 kilometers [2,500 miles], 300 Hours, or 2 Years.
  7. (For transit buses only) Perform this maintenance procedure at 80,000 kilometers [50,000 miles], 3,000 Hours, or 2 Years.
  8. (For transit buses only) Perform this maintenance procedure at 161,000 kilometers [100,000 miles], 6,000 Hours, or 2 Years.

Oil Drain Intervals

Is your vehicle one of those below?

  • Line Haul Truck
  • Coach Bus
  • Equipment accumulates 12,875 km [8,000 miles] a month or more

If YES, select and follow either oil drain interval A, B or C based on how the engine is used. See Table 1: Maximum Oil Drain Intervals by Duty Cycle.

  • Follow Oil Drain Interval A if your vehicle operates under any of the conditions listed in Interval A.
  • Follow Oil Drain Interval B if your vehicle operates under any of the conditions listed in Interval B and does not meet any conditions in Interval A.
  • Follow Oil Drain Interval C if your vehicle operates under all of the conditions listed in Interval C and does not meet any conditions in Interval A or B.

NOTE: Extending the oil drain and filter change interval beyond the recommendations will decrease engine life due to factors such as corrosion, deposits, and wear.

A synthetic media lubricating oil filter, Fleetguard® LF9009 or equivalent, is required for premium oil drain intervals.

  1. Valvoline® Premium Blue® meets and exceeds API CH-4 and CES 20071 specifications.
  2. Valvoline® Premium Blue® 2000 meets and exceeds CES 20076 specifications.
