Centinel System – Master Repair Manual – 019-056   Lubricating Oil Level Sensor

WARNING  Some state and federal agencies have determined that used engine oil can be carcinogenic and cause reproductive toxicity. Avoid inhalation of vapors, ingestion, and prolonged contact with used engine oil. If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.

WARNING  To reduce the possibility of personal injury, avoid direct contact of hot oil with your skin.

Drain the Centinel™ system make-up oil tank.

NOTE: This oil is clean. Drain the oil into a container suitable enough to allow for reuse of the oil.

Lift up on the locking tab and pull the electrical connectors apart.

Remove the sensor.

CAUTION  Use only Cummins-recommended lubricant DS-ES, Part Number 3822934. Other lubricants, such as lubricating oil or grease, in the connectors can cause electronic control module (ECM) damage, poor engine performance, or premature connector pin wear.

Apply a small amount of lubricant to the connector terminals. Before installing, fill the entire connector cavity with lubricant.

CAUTION  An abrupt shock (such as dropping the sensor on a concrete floor) can cause the sensor to become inoperative.

Lubricate the sensor o-ring.

Install the new sensor into the tank. Tighten the sensor.

Push the electrical connectors together until they lock.

Fill the make-up oil tank. Refer to Procedure 007-088.
