Centinel System – Repair Manual – Lubricating Oil in the Fuel

Engine equipped with Centinel™

Refer to
the Centinel™ Master Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666231.

Check for lubricating oil in fuel

Perform oil dye test. Refer to Procedure 007-024 in Section 7. Add dye to oil. Inspect for dye in fuel tank with black light. If no dye was found in the fuel Asphaltines are the likely cause of the dark fuel. To verify, take a fuel sample and perform an analysis to check for Asphaltines.

Injector o-rings are damaged or missing

Remove and check the injectors. Replace the injector o-rings. Refer to Procedure 006-026 in Section 6.

Cylinder head has damaged injector bore

Inspect the cylinder head for Injector bore damage. Refer to Procedure 002-004 in Section 2.

Damaged injector upper plunger seal

Replace the upper plunger seal in the fuel injector. Refer to Procedure 006-026 in Section 6.

Integrated Fuel System Module (IFSM) mounting gasket leaking

Inspect the IFSM mounting gasket and sealing surfaces. Refer to Procedure 005-073 in Section 5.

Cylinder head is cracked or porous

Inspect the cylinder head for cracked or porous fuel passages per the Fuel Passage Leak Test. Refer to Procedure 002-004 in Section 2. Note: It is not necessary to remove the cylinder head to perform this procedure unless the tools will not fit on the cylinder head in chassis.

Injector is malfunctioning

Replace the malfunctioning injector. Refer to Procedure 006-026 in Section 6.
