Fault Code: 284 PID: P221 SPN: 1043 FMI: 4/4 LAMP: Yellow SRT: |
Incorrect voltage detected on the electronic control module (ECM) voltage supply wire to the crankshaft engine position sensor. |
Engine can possibly not run or will run derated. Possible hard starting, low power, or white smoke. |
Sensor Supply Circuit
|
Circuit Description
The ECM supplies the crankshaft engine position sensor with (+) 5 VDC. If the supply wire to any sensor is damaged, the sensor will not
work correctly.
Component Location
The crankshaft engine position sensor is located in the front cover on the intake side of the engine.
Shop Talk
Incorrect voltage on the sensor (+) 5 VDC supply line will be caused by a short circuit to ground in a supply line, a short circuit between a supply line or a return line, a failed sensor, or a failed ECM power supply.
