Circuit Description
The starter relay/interlock circuit controls and monitors both the starter relay coil and the ICON™ interlocks. The starter relay is used by the ICON™ feature to perform automatic starts of the engine. The interlocks are used by the ICON™ feature to monitor if the transmission is in neutral, the position of the hood/cab, and if the parking brakes are set.
Component Location
The location of the starter relay, parking brake switch, neutral position switch, and hood tilt switch vary between OEMs. Consult the specific OEM troubleshooting and repair manual for the exact location.
Shop Talk
This fault code is set if 2 consecutive attempts at starting fail. If a start is commanded by the ECM and neither 200 rpm is reached within 2 seconds nor 450 rpm is reached within 14 seconds, the start failed. After the first failure, the ECM waits 1 minute and then tries again. If the second start attempt fails, the fault is set. It is cleared as soon as a manual start is successful.
