Less than (+) 6 VDC detected at engine brake circuit 1 when on. Indicates an excessive current draw from the ECM or a faulty ECM output circuit.

Engine brake on cylinder number 1 can
not be activated.

Circuit Description

The electronic control module (ECM) enables the engine brake by sending a signal directly to the engine brakes. The ECM will
only enable the engine brakes under certain operating conditions.

Component Location

The engine brakes are located under the valve cover. The 8-pin engine brake connector is located on the intake side of the head above the inlet air horn. The engine brake solenoid for cylinder number 1 is the forward-most of the three engine brake solenoids.

Shop Talk

Possible causes for this fault code include:

  • ECM engine brake circuit 1 shorted to ground
  • This fault code is
    not used when a three-level engine braking harness (ICON™) is installed.
