Circuit Description
Under ordinary operating conditions, the real-time clock in the ECM is powered by the vehicle’s batteries. If battery power to the ECM is lost, then the real-time clock will be powered by a battery backup module (if equipped).
Component Location
The real-time clock battery backup module is secured to the wiring harness in the vicinity of the ECM. The ECM is located on the fuel pump side of the engine either above the air compressor (high-mount) or above the starter (low-mount).
Shop Talk
This fault indicates that the real-time clock in the ECM lost power. Possible causes for this fault:
- A weak or failed battery backup module
- Failed wiring or connectors between the battery backup module and ECM
