Batteries can emit explosive gases. To reduce the possibility of personal injury, always ventilate the compartment before servicing the batteries. To reduce the possibility of arcing, remove the negative (-) battery cable first and attach the negative (-) battery cable last.
Burn with make-up and burn-only installation procedures.
Avoid direct contact of hot oil with your skin. Hot oil can cause personal injury.
WARNING
Some state and federal agencies have determined that used engine oil can be carcinogenic and cause reproductive toxicity. Avoid inhalation of vapors, ingestion, and prolonged contact with used engine oil. If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.
Drain the lubricating oil and remove the oil filters.
Use the oil filter wrench, Part Number 3375049, to remove the filter.
NOTE: Refer to the General Information of this procedure for control valve component location.
Locate the Centinel™ oil control valve mounting location on the ISM engine block, making note of the valve’s location relative to the engine block rib and starter. Carefully clear any Cummins and customer hardware interference, as necessary, from the valve mounting area for later reinstallation.
Install the Centinel™ oil control valve on the ISM engine block using the one studded M10-1.5 and one flange head M10-1.5 capscrews. The capscrews insert through the two valve body mounting holes with the M10 studded capscrew toward the front of the engine. Tighten the two capscrews.
