ISM, ISMe, and QSM11 – 011-030   EGR Valve Coolant Lines

Preparatory Steps

 WARNING 

Do not remove the pressure cap from a hot engine. Wait until the temperature is below 50°C [120°F] before removing the pressure cap. Heated coolant spray or steam can cause personal injury.
 WARNING 

Coolant is toxic. Keep away from children and pets. If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.

Drain the coolant. Refer to Procedure 008-018.

Remove

Disconnect the EGR valve coolant supply (bottom) and return (top) line.

Clean and Inspect for Reuse

 WARNING 

When using solvents, acids, or alkaline materials for cleaning, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for use. Wear goggles and protective clothing to reduce the possibility of personal injury.
 WARNING 

Wear appropriate eye and face protection when using compressed air. Flying debris and dirt can cause personal injury.

Clean the EGR valve coolant lines with solvent.

Dry with compressed air.

Inspect the EGR valve coolant lines for cracks or other damage.

Replace the lines if cracks or damage is found.

Inspect the grommets for cracks or other damage.

Replace the grommets if cracked or damaged.

Install

 CAUTION 

Do not use petroleum products on the coolant plumbing grommets. The grommets will swell and cause the connection to leak. Lubricate the grommets with clean engine coolant, soapy water, or vegetable oil to avoid damaging the groummets while assembling.

Install the EGR valve coolant supply line to the EGR valve and EGR cooler coolant supply tube.

Tighten the tube nuts.

Torque Value:  13  n.m  [120 in-lb]

Install the EGR valve coolant return line to the EGR valve and coolant return water manifold.

Tighten the tube nuts.

Torque Value:  13  n.m  [120 in-lb]

Finishing Steps

TOC

Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Procedure 008-018.

Start and operate the engine. Check for coolant leaks.
