Preparatory Steps

WARNING
Coolant is toxic. Keep away from children and pets. If not reused, dispose of in accordance with local environmental regulations.
Drain the coolant system. Refer to Procedure 008-018 .
Remove the water manifold return tube. Refer to Procedure 011-031 .

Remove the capscrew and nut that attaches the EGR cooler connection heat shield.
Remove the EGR cooler connection heat shield.

Inspect for Reuse

Inspect the EGR cooler connection heat shield for cracks or damage.
Replace the EGR cooler connection heat shield if cracks or damage is found.

Install
TOC
Install the EGR cooler connection heat shield. The top hole in the shield locates over the stud on the water manifold mounting capscrew.
Install the nut onto the stud and the capscrew into the cylinder head.
Tighten the nut and capscrew.
