Circuit Description

The engine position (camshaft) sensor provides engine position information to the electronic control module (ECM). The sensor generates the signal by sensing the movement of target teeth machined in the camshaft gear.

Component Location

Use the engine diagrams in Section E of this manual for the component location.

Possible causes of this fault code include damaged engine position (camshaft) sensor, debris on tip of sensor, open or short circuit, or power supply voltage failure.

Fault Code 753: When checking the sensor air gap, inspect each cam gear notch for debris or failed cam gear. The ECM will trigger Fault Code 753 if it does not see the proper amount of pulses; four-cylinder engines have five notches on the cam gear and six-cylinder engines have seven notches.
