The cam pickup sensor sends a reset signal to the ignition module to indicate top dead center (TDC) engine position.

Remove

Lift up on the tab and disconnect the connector from the sensor.
Loosen the locknut.
Remove the cam pickup sensor from the gear cover.

Clean and Inspect for Reuse

Inspect the cam pickup sensor for debris, cracked, or chipped potting, extruded potting, and damage from contact with the cam gear.
If there is debris on the cam pickup sensor, clean the sensor.
If the sensor is chipped, cracked, extruded, or damaged, replace the sensor.

Install
TOC
Install the new cam pickup sensor into the mounting hole in the gear cover until it touches the cam gear.
NOTE : For the KTA38GC, turn the cam pickup sensor counterclockwise
2 turns.
Turn the cam pickup sensor counterclockwise 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.
Tighten the locknut against the flywheel housing.

All Other Engines
20 n.m
[15 ft-lb]
Connect the sensor to the sensor harness.
Push the connectors together until they lock.
