Circuit Description

The heated oxygen sensor is used by the ECM to measure the air to fuel ratio at which the engine is operating.

Component Location

The heated oxygen sensor is located in the turbocharger exhaust outlet.

Shop Talk

  • Any grease in the electrical connectors can cause the sensor to fail.
  • Only use Cummins Inc. approved anti-seize and lubricating compound on the sensor mounting threads.
  • Reference air flows through the heated oxygen sensor wires – the engine will not perform well if the supply of air is obstructed.
