ISX and ISM – SAE J1939 Multiplexing Circuit – Anti-Lock Braking (ABS) Controller SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE

Circuit Description

Certain anti-lock braking (ABS) controllers communicate with the electronic control module (ECM) through the SAE J1939 data link. Under certain driving conditions, the anti-lock braking (ABS) controller can send a cruise control inhibit message to ECM and cruise control will temporarily be disabled.

Component Location

The ECM is located on the fuel system side of the engine.Refer to Procedure 100-002 in Section E.

The SAE J1939 data link wiring and anti-lock braking (ABS) controller location varies by OEM. Refer to the OEM service manual.

Conditions for Running the Diagnostics

This diagnostic runs continuously when the keyswitch is in the ON position.

Conditions for Setting the Fault Codes

This fault code is set when cruise control has been inhibited due to certain driving conditions detected by the anti-lock braking (ABS) controller.

Action Taken When the Fault Code is Active

• The ECM logs the fault code immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails.
• Cruise control has temporarily been inhibited.

Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code

The fault code will be set inactive immediately after the diagnostic runs and passes.

Verify the electronic control module (ECM) calibration is correct. Check the calibration revision history found on QuickServe™ Online for applicable fixes to the calibration stored in the ECM. If necessary, calibrate the ECM for the engine being serviced. Refer to Procedure 019-032 in Section 19.

When this fault code is active, cruise control could possibly not function. This is an information only fault code, indicating that the anti-lock braking (ABS) controller detected certain driving conditions and temporarily inhibited cruise control operation.
