Air density increases as its pressure increases and as its temperature is reduced. To get the maximum benefit from a turbocharger an intercooler, or aftercooler, is sometimes fitted between the turbo and the engine air inlet. Cooled with raw water, it cools the air entering the engine and enhances its power even further.
