To reduce the possibility of connector damage, do not use probes or leads other than Part Number 3822758. The leads must fit tightly in the connector without expanding the pins in the connector.
Insert the test lead into pin 14 of the OEM sensor connector. Insert
the other test lead into pin 11.
Move the leads to pins 1 and 15. Measure the resistance. The multimeter
must show between 1000 and 2000 ohms. If the resistance is
not correct, there is a problem with the sensor harness, provided the sensor has been previously checked. Repair or replace the sensor harness. Refer to Procedure
019-043. If both resistance checks are within specification, the sensor circuit
must still be checked for a short circuit to ground and a short circuit from pin to pin.
Remove the test lead from pin 1 and place it into pin 15. Touch the other multimeter probe to the engine block ground. Measure the resistance. The multimeter
Remove the test lead from pin 15 and place it into pin 11. Touch the other multimeter probe to the engine block ground. Measure the resistance. The multimeter
Remove the test lead from pin 11 and place it into pin 14. Touch the other multimeter probe to the engine block ground. Measure the resistance. The multimeter
must show an open circuit (more than 10M ohms). If the resistance values in any of the previous checks are
not
within the specification, there is a short circuit to ground, provided the EPS sensor has been previously checked. Repair or replace the sensor harness. Refer to Procedure
Disconnect the engine position sensor from the sensor harness. Insert the test lead into pin 1. Insert the other test lead into pin 2. Measure the resistance. The multimeter
Remove the test lead from pin 2 and place it into pin 3, then pin 4. Check all pins. Measure the resistance. The multimeter
must
show an open circuit (more than 10M ohms) at all pins except pin 1.
If the resistance values in any of the previous checks are
not within specification, there is a short circuit from pin 1, 11, 14, or 15 to any pin that measures less than 10M ohms. Repair or replace the sensor harness. Refer to Procedure
