N14 Engines

The CELECT™-equipped engines use two separate wiring harnesses to control the engine and some of the vehicle operations.

M11 Engines

The CELECT™-equipped engines use three separate wiring harnesses to control the engine and some of the vehicle operations.

Remove

Remove the harness clamps from the support bracket of the engine block.

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Disconnect the fuel shutoff valve control wire from the fuel shutoff solenoid valve.

Disconnect the +12-VDC (24-VDC in U.K. and Europe) supply wire from the vehicle wiring harness at the Weather-Pack three-way connector.

Disconnect the harness from the intake air temperature sensor (A) and the intake manifold pressure sensor (B).

Disconnect the Deutsch 21-pin connector from the OEM vehicle wiring harness.

Remove the harness retaining capscrews and disconnect the harness from the following sensors:

  1. Oil pressure sensor
  2. Oil temperature sensor
  3. Ambient air pressure
  4. Fuel shutoff control wire
  5. Engine position sensor
  6. Engine coolant temperature sensor.

On engines equipped with engine brakes, disconnect the engine brake harness from the wiring harness.

N14 Engines

Disconnect the harness from each of the pass-through connectors along the side of the rocker box housing.

Cut and remove the cable ties that hold the harness to each of the pass-thru connectors.

M11 Engines

Remove the locking capscrew from the Metri-Pack 12-pin connector and separate the connector.

NOTE: The connector is held together with a Torx® (six-point star-type)
screw. Use a Torx® screwdriver to disconnect this connector.

Use nut driver, Part Number 3823257, to disconnect the engine harness, sensor, and actuator AMP connectors from the ECM.

The internal actuator harness is located under the rocker lever cover. Remove the rocker lever cover.

Use a Torx® screwdriver to remove the locking capscrew that holds the Metri-Pack 12-pin connectors together.

Remove the internal actuator harness holding clamps.

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Separate the Deutsch 2-pin connectors from the internal actuator harness to the fuel injectors.

Remove the internal actuator harness from the engine.

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   

Inspect for Reuse

Replace or repair the sensor harness if there is an open circuit or a short circuit found under the protective covering of the harness body. Instructions for checking the harness can be found in Procedure

019-043.

Install

N14 Engines

Install the actuator connector of the engine harness, on the engine.

Connect the actuator harness connector to the ECM. Tighten the two connector capscrews to the ECM.

Torque Value:  2  n.m  [18 in-lb]

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Install the actuator harness retaining clamps to the support bracket and to the rear of the engine block. Tighten the capscrews.

Torque Value:  20  n.m  [177 in-lb]

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Connect the actuator harness to each of the pass-thru connectors along the side of the rocker lever housing. Make sure the connector clicks or snaps into place.

Install a new cable tie, Part Number 3062329, to each of the pass-thru connectors to hold the actuator harness to the pass-thru connectors.

Connect the fuel shutoff control wire to the fuel shutoff solenoid. Tighten the retaining nut.

Torque Value:  3  n.m  [27 in-lb]

Connect the Weather-Pack three-way connector to the vehicle +12-VDC supply wire.

M11 Engine

Install the external actuator connector of the engine harness, on the engine.

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Connect the actuator harness connector of the engine harness to the ECM.

Install and tighten the capscrews.

Torque Value:  2  n.m  [18 in-lb]

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Install the harness clamps to the support bracket and to the rear of the engine block.

Tighten the capscrew.

Torque Value:  20  n.m  [177 in-lb]

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Connect the internal actuator 12-pin connector to the external connector.

Use a Torx® screwdriver to install and tighten the locking capscrew.

Torque Value:  1  n.m  [9 in-lb]

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Connect the fuel shutoff control wire to the fuel shutoff solenoid. Tighten the retaining nut.

Connect the Weather-Pack 3-pin connector to the vehicle +12-VDC supply wire.

Sensor Connector (M11 and N14)

Install the sensor connector of the engine harness on the engine.

Connect the sensor harness connector to the ECM. Tighten the connector capscrews to the ECM.

Torque Value:  2  n.m  [18 in-lb]

Install the wiring harness retaining clamps to the support bracket and the engine block.

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Place the harness wires from the turbocharger boost pressure sensor and the intake air temperature sensor through the external actuator harness retaining clamp on the rear of the engine block. Tighten the capscrew.

Torque Value:  20  n.m  [177 in-lb]

Connect the turbocharger boost pressure sensor and the intake air temperature sensor to the harness.

Install the mounting hardware and connect the following sensors to the sensor harness:

Oil pressure sensor
Oil temperature sensor
Ambient air pressure sensor
Fuel shutoff control wire
Engine position sensor
Coolant temperature sensor.

Connect the 21-pin Deutsch connector from the wiring harness to the OEM’s vehicle wiring harness.

NOTE: Make sure the locking ring is correctly installed and locked.

Install the internal actuator wiring harness on the engine.

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Connect the 12-pin connector of the internal actuator harness to the twelve pin connector of the external actuator harness.

NOTE: The internal and external Metri-Pack connectors are keyed. Make sure both connectors are correctly aligned when they are joined together.

Install the locking capscrew (Torx® size T-25). Tighten the capscrew.

Torque Value:  1  n.m  [9 in-lb]

Install the holding clamps for the internal actuator harness. Tighten the capscrews.

Torque Value:  20  n.m  [177 in-lb]

Connect the 2-pin connector from the internal actuator harness to the fuel injector.

SMALL | MEDIUM | LARGE
   


Install the rocker lever cover. Refer to the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, L-10 Series Engines, Bulletin 3810361, or the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, M11 Series Engines, Bulletin 3666074.
