019-041   Engine Protection Warning Lamp Circuit

Turn the vehicle keyswitch OFF. Disconnect the OEM harness from the ECM and the 9-pin OEM interface connector.

Measure the resistance from pin 1 of the OEM harness to pin D of the OEM interface side of the 9-pin OEM interface connector. The multimeter

must show a closed circuit (10 ohms or less).

If the circuit is

not closed, repair or replace the OEM harness. Refer to Procedure

019-071.

Check the OEM harness resistance. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Connect all components when the repair is complete.

Turn the vehicle keyswitch OFF. Disconnect the OEM harness from the ECM. Disconnect the 9-pin OEM interface connector.

Use test lead, Part Number 3822758. Measure the resistance from pin 1 of the OEM harness to the engine block.

The multimeter

must show an open circuit (100k ohms or more). If the circuit is

not open, repair or replace the OEM harness. Refer to Procedure

019-071.

Check the OEM harness for short circuit to ground. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Connect all components when the repair is complete.

CAUTION  To reduce the possibility of connector damage, do not use probes or leads other than Part Number 3822758. The leads must fit tightly in the connector without expanding the pins in the connector.

Disconnect the OEM harness from the ECM. Refer to Procedure

019-071. Turn the vehicle keyswitch ON.

Insert one lead into pin 1 of the OEM harness.

Connect the alligator clip to the positive (+) multimeter probe. Connect the negative (-) multimeter probe to the engine block. Turn the vehicle keyswitch ON. Adjust the multimeter to measure DC voltage. The multimeter

must show battery voltage. If the proper voltage is

not
present, pin 1

must be checked for an open circuit or a short circuit to ground.

Connect all components when the repair is complete.
