Printable Version  Printable Version

Overview

CODE REASON EFFECT
Fault Code: 155
PID: P105
SPN: 105
FMI: 0
LAMP: Engine Protection or Yellow*
SRT: None
Voltage at the intake manifold air temperature sensor signal pin 25 of the sensor harness connector indicates the intake manifold air temperature above 84°C [183°F]. Progressive power and speed derate with increasing time after alert. If Engine Protection Shutdown is enabled, the engine will shut down 30 seconds after the engine protection lamp or the Red lamp* starts flashing.

Intake Manifold Air Temperature Sensor Circuit

Circuit Description

The intake manifold air temperature sensor is used by the electronic control module (ECM) to monitor the temperature of the engine intake air. The intake air temperature is used by the ECM for the engine protection system, and the timing and fueling control.

Component Location

  • M11 – The intake manifold air temperature sensor is located on the top rear of the intake manifold next to the intake manifold pressure sensor.
  • N14 – The intake manifold air temperature sensor is located on the side of the intake manifold just above the ECM.

Shop Talk

  • Make sure the engine compartment temperature does not
get too high, above 93.3°C [200°F].

*Applies to 98N14 and 98M11 calibrations only.

Troubleshooting Steps

STEPS SPECIFICATIONS
STEP 1. Check the sensor accuracy.
STEP 1A. Verify the sensor accuracy with a thermocouple or similar temperature probe. Sensor reading is correct
STEP 2. Clear the fault codes.
STEP 2A. Disable the fault code. Fault Code 155 inactive
STEP 2B. Clear the inactive fault codes. All fault codes cleared

Guided Step 1 – Check the sensor accuracy.

Guided Step 1A – Verify the sensor accuracy with a thermocouple or similar temperature probe.

Conditions

  • Turn keyswitch ON.

Action

  • Connect the temperature probe to the engine near the intake manifold air temperature sensor.
  • Connect INSITE™ to the vehicle datalink.
  • Compare the intake manifold air temperature sensor reading on the service tool monitor screen with the reading from the temperature probe.

NOTE: If a temperature measuring device is not
available, then answer “OK” to this step.

OK NOT OK
Sensor reading is correct
