Oil Temperature – Engine Protection
|
Overview
CODE | REASON | EFFECT |
Fault Code: 214 PID: P175 SPN: 175 FMI: 0 LAMP: Engine Protection, Red, or Yellow* SRT: 00-059 |
High oil temperature detected. Voltage at the oil temperature signal pin 6 of the sensor harness connector indicates the oil temperature above 123.9°C [255°F]. | Progressive power and speed derate with increasing time after alert. If Engine Protection Shutdown is enabled, the engine will shut down 30 seconds after the engine protection lamp or the Red lamp* starts flashing. |
Oil Temperature Sensor Circuit |
Circuit Description
The oil temperature sensor monitors oil temperature and passes the information to the electronic control module (ECM) through the sensor harness. If the oil temperature becomes too high and engine protection is enabled, a derate condition can be incurred, possibly leading to shutdown.
Component Location
- M11 – The oil temperature sensor is located on the engine block behind the ECM.
- N14 – The oil temperature sensor is located in the lubricating pump housing.
Shop Talk
- Check for high restriction on both the oil and coolant sides of the oil cooler.
- Make sure the oil cooler thermostat is working correctly.
*Applies to 98N14 and 98M11 calibrations only.
