Circuit Description

The CELECT™ electronic control module (ECM) is a computer that is responsible for engine control, diagnostics, and user features.

Component Location

ECM is bolted to the left side of the engine.

Shop Talk

Possible causes for this fault code include the injector pigtail rubbing against a push tube and an ECM internal failure.

Cautions and Warnings


 CAUTION 

To reduce the possibility of damaging the new ECM, all other active fault codes must be investigated prior to replacing the ECM.

Troubleshooting Steps

STEPS SPECIFICATIONS
STEP 1. Check the ECM.  
  STEP 1A. Check the ECM. Fault Code 351 inactive
  STEP 1A-1. Check the new ECM.
STEP 2. Clear the fault codes.  
  STEP 2A. Clear the inactive fault codes. All fault codes cleared


Guided Step 1 – Check the ECM.

 CAUTION 

To reduce the possibility of damaging the new ECM, all other active fault codes must be investigated prior to replacing the ECM.

Guided Step 1A – Check the ECM.

Conditions

  • Connect all components.

Action

  • Turn vehicle keyswitch OFF and wait five seconds.
  • Turn vehicle keyswitch ON and idle engine for at least one minute.
OK NOT OK

Fault Code 351 inactive

Replace the ECM

Refer to Procedure 019-031.

Guided Step 1A-1 – Check the new ECM.

Conditions

  • Connect all components.

Action

  • Start the engine and let idle for one minute.
  • Verify Fault Code 351 is inactive.
OK NOT OK

Fault Code 351 inactive

Return to the troubleshooting steps or contact your nearest Cummins Authorized Repair Location if all the steps have been completed and checked again.

Conditions

  • Connect all the components.

Action

  • Erase the inactive fault codes using INSITE™ electronic service tool.
OK NOT OK

All fault codes cleared

Troubleshoot any remaining active fault codes.
