M11 Series – Service Manual – 007-018   Lubricating Oil Filter Head Adapter

Remote oil filters are used when access to the lubricating oil filter head is restricted. A filter head adapter is mounted in place of the lubricating oil filter so oil supply and return lines can be mounted between the engine lubricating oil filter head and the remote mounted lubricating oil filter head.

• Clean the area around the lubricating oil filter head adapter.

Remove the lubricating oil filter lines from the filter head adapter.

Remove the lubricating oil filter line fittings from the filter head adapter.

Remove the retaining nut, oil filter head adapter cover, and oil filter head adapter from the lubricating oil filter head.

Clean the gasket surface of the filter head.

The o-ring can stick on the filter head. Make sure it is removed.

WARNING  When using solvents, acids, or alkaline materials for cleaning, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for use. Wear goggles and protective clothing to reduce the possibility of personal injury.

WARNING  Wear appropriate eye and face protection when using compressed air. Flying debris and dirt can cause personal injury.

Clean the lubricating oil filter head adapter components with solvent.

Dry with compressed air.

Inspect the filter head adapter components for damage.

Replace any damaged parts.

Lubricate the o-rings with Lubriplate® multi-purpose lubricant.

Place the o-rings into the filter head adapter.

Turn the lubricating oil filter head adapter onto the lubricating oil filter head until it is snug.

Apply a light film of clean engine oil to the flat o-ring before installation.

Place the flat o-ring into the groove in the lubricating oil filter head adapter cover.

Position the cover over the adapter and turn the nut onto the adapter.

Orient the cover so the lubricating oil supply and return lines can be installed, then torque the nut.

Install the lubricating oil line fittings to the cover.

Tighten the fittings.

Install the lubricating oil supply and return lines.

CAUTION  Engine oil pressure must be indicated on the gauge within 15 seconds after starting. If oil pressure is not registered within 15 seconds, shut off the engine immediately to avoid engine damage. Confirm the correct oil level in the oil pan.

• Operate the engine at idle speed for 3 minutes to inspect for leaks at the filter head adapter.
