Cause Correction

Identify lubricating oil contamination

Perform an oil analysis to determine the contaminants.

 

Bulk oil supply is contaminated

Check the bulk oil supply. Drain the oil and replace with noncontaminated oil. Replace the oil filters. Refer to Procedure 007-013.

 

Internal coolant leaks

Refer to the Coolant Loss symptom tree.

 

Lubricating oil sludge is excessive

Change the oil and filters. Refer to the Lubricating Oil Sludge in the Crankcase Excessive symptom tree and Procedures 007-013 and 007-025.

 

Lubricating oil does not meet specifications for operating conditions

Change the oil and filters. Refer to Procedure 007-013. Use the oil type recommended in Section V of the operation and maintenance manual.

 

Lubricating oil drain interval is excessive

Verify the correct lubricating oil drain interval. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, B5.9G, B5.9LPG, B Gas Plus and B LPG Plus Engines, Bulletin 3666112.

 

Alternator bearing worn or damaged

Clean and replace the alternator. Refer to Procedure 013-001.

 

Air compressor is excessively worn or internally damaged

Replace or rebuild the air compressor. Refer to Procedure 012-014.
