ISM, ISMe, and QSM11 – 012-109   Air Compressor Inlet Tube

WARNING  Batteries can emit explosive gases. To reduce the possibility of personal injury, always ventilate the compartment before servicing the batteries. To reduce the possibility of arcing, remove the negative (-) battery cable first and attach the negative (-) battery cable last.

• Disconnect the batteries. Refer to Procedure 013-009 in Section 13.
• Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the CM870 module. Refer to Procedure 019-043 in Section 19.

Remove the hoses and hose clamps from the mixer, the air compressor tube at the rear of the engine and from the air compressor.

Remove the flange nut that holds the air compressor supply tube to the intake manifold.

Remove the flange nut holding the air compressor inlet tube to the rear of the cylinder head fuel rail.

Remove the air compressor inlet tube sections from the engine.

Inspect the air compressor inlet tubes for cracks or damage.

Replace the inlet tubes if cracks or damage is found.

Inspect the hose clamps for cracks or damage.

Replace hose clamps if cracks or damage is found.

Inspect hoses for cracks or damage.

Replace hoses if cracks or damage is found.

Install the existing hose and clamps at the end of the rear end of the air compressor inlet tube that connects to the air compressor.

Place the long section of the line on the air compressor.

Install tube mount and the flange nut on the cylinder head fuel rail mounting stud and tighten the flange nut.

Place the existing hose and the existing clamps on the rear end of the air compressor inlet tube where it mates to the exhaust manifold side of the air compressor inlet tube.

Place the existing hose and clamps on the mixer feed tube.

Install the exhaust manifold side of the air compressor inlet tube. Install tube mount and the flange nut to the intake manifold mounting stud.

Tighten the flange nut.

Tighten the hose clamps.

• Connect the wiring harness connectors to the CM870 module. Refer to Procedure 019-043 in Section 19.
• Connect the batteries. Refer to Procedure 013-009 in Section 13.
• Operate the engine and check for leaks at air connections.
