CM870 and ISX Engines – 019-367   Governor Type Switch

The governor type switch selects between variable speed (VS) and automotive accelerator governors. Governor selection often occurs while changing operation modes, for example between cab accelerator and remote accelerator. When the OEM enables the switchable accelerator type feature, the automotive or VS governing feature uses the governor type switch.

If the electronic service tool is available, monitor the governor type switch for proper operation. If not, use the following procedure.

Locate the switch and unhook the connectors. Label the wires so that you do not confuse them when reconnecting. Touch the multimeter probes to both switch terminals. Move the switch from one position to the other.

The multimeter must transition from an open circuit (100k ohms or more) to a closed circuit (less than 10 ohms). If this does not occur, the switch has failed. Refer to the OEM troubleshooting and repair manual for the proper procedure to replace the switch.

Touch one of the multimeter probes to one of the switch terminals. Touch the other probe to chassis ground. Move the switch to the alternate position and measure the resistance. The multimeter must show an open circuit (100k ohms or more). If the circuit does not show an open circuit then the switch has failed. Refer to the OEM troubleshooting and repair manual for the proper procedure to replace the switch.
