Install a Compuchek® fitting, in the side of the electronic step timing control solenoid valve body and then connect a gauge to that location to monitor the oil pressure.
The second method is to use service tool, ST434-2, and a pressure gauge to plumb the oil feed line that sends engine oil to the overhead, and then check the operation of the electronic step timing control valve under various loads and speeds to make sure the valve is switching.
Remove the oil feed line. Refer to Procedure 006-068.
Disconnect the electronic step timing control solenoid and module. Refer to Procedure 019-043 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Centry Fuel System, Bulletin 3666070.
Use an ohmmeter. Check the resistance of the solenoid.
If the resistance is not within specifications, the solenoid must be replaced. Refer to Fuel Pump PT (Type G) Rebuild and Calibration Manual, Bulletin Number 3379084.
Install the 90 degree elbow check valve. Refer to Procedure 006-032.
Connect the electronic step timing control solenoid. Refer to Procedure 019-043 in the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Centry Fuel System, Bulletin 3666070.
Install the oil feed line. Refer to Procedure006-068.
Perform initial check in this procedure, to verify proper operation.
