Cause Correction

Coolant temperature is above specification

Refer to the Coolant Temperature is Above Normal – Sudden Overheat and the Coolant Temperature is Above Normal – Gradual Overheat symptom tree.

 

Lubricating oil level is above or below specification

Check the oil level. Add or drain oil, if necessary. Refer to Procedure 007-025. Check the dipstick calibration. Refer to Procedure 007-009.

 

Lubricating oil cooler is malfunctioning

Check the oil cooler. Refer to Procedure 007-003.

 

Lubricating oil does not meet specifications for operating conditions

Change the oil and filters. Refer to Procedures 007-013 , 007-025 and the Cummins Engine Oil Recommendations, Bulletin 3810340.

 

Lubricating oil temperature sensor or circuit is malfunctioning (electronic controlled fuel system)

Check the lubricating oil temperature sensor and circuit. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

OEM components cooled with engine lubricating oil are malfunctioning

Check OEM components. Refer to the OEM service manuals.
