Accelerator Pedal or Lever Position Sensor Supply Voltage Circuit – Voltage Above Normal, or shorted to high source. High voltage detected at sensor supply circuit for the accelerator pedal position sensor. |
Engine idles when the idle validation switch indicates idle and ramps up to a default set speed when the idle validation switch indicates off idle. |

Circuit Description
The accelerator pedal position sensor sends a signal to the electronic control module (ECM) to indicate to the ECM the rate at which the driver wants to accelerate the vehicle.
Component Location
The accelerator pedal position sensor is located on the accelerator pedal.
Shop Talk
- Make sure there are no external circuits hooked into the accelerator pedal position sensor circuit and that there are no signs of tampering in the circuit.
- If all the wiring and sensor checks are okay, replace the accelerator pedal position sensor and the idle validation switch circuit wires, between the accelerator pedal and ECM, with new wires. Run the wires through or around the bulkhead without using the bulkhead connector. Test the vehicle with the test wires in place. If the fault code goes away, replace the OEM harness.
- Verify that the accelerator pedal position sensor wires are twisted together.
Cautions and Warnings
CAUTION ![]() To reduce the possibility of damaging a new ECM, all other active fault codes must be investigated prior to replacing the ECM. |
CAUTION ![]() To reduce the possibility of pin and harness damage, use the following test leads when taking a measurement: |
