Cause Correction

Electronic fault codes active or high counts of inactive fault codes

Refer to Section TF in the CELECT Plus™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666130, or Section TF in the CELECT™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666084, for fault code troubleshooting.

 

Verify the complaint

If low power is relevant, refer to the OEM instructions. If acceleration is poor, refer to the Engine Acceleration or Response Poor symptom tree. If fuel consumption is relevant, continue with this tree.

 

Perform a throttle response test (if applicable)

Perform a throttle response test. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

Perform a stall speed test (if applicable)

Perform a stall speed test. Refer to Procedure 005-054 in Section 5.

 

Throttle position sensor is misadjusted or malfunctioning

Check throttle position sensor for proper adjustment and operation. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

Programmable parameters or selected features are not correct

Check the programmable parameters and the selected features with an electronic service tool. Set the parameters and features again, if necessary. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

Engine protection fault code(s) inactive

Refer to Section TF in the for CELECT Plus™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666130, or Section TF in the CELECT™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666084. View the fault codes and the engine protection data with the appropriate electronic service tool.

 

Electronic control module (ECM) calibration is malfunctioning

Verify that the electronic control module (ECM) calibration is correct. Check the calibration revision history for applicable fixes to the calibration stored in the ECM. Refer to the calibration history spreadsheet on QuickServe™ Online Internet Website or the INCAL™ calibration CD. Compare the calibration stored in the ECM with the engine rating and the Control Parts List (CPL), Bulletin 4021328. If necessary, calibrate the ECM. Refer to Procedure 019-032 in Section 19 of the CELECT Plus™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666130, or the CELECT™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666084.

 

Fuel inlet restriction

Check for fuel inlet restriction. Refer to Procedure 006-020 in Section 6.

 

Fuel drain line restriction

Check or replace the fuel lines, check valves, or tank vents as needed. Refer to Procedure 006-012 in Section 6.

 

Intake manifold pressure (boost) is below specification

Refer to Procedure 019-061 in Section 19 of the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual for CELECT™ Plus Systems, Bulletin 3666130, or Procedure 019-061 in Section 19 of the CELECT™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666084.

 

Coolant temperature sensor is malfunctioning

Use an electronic service tool to check the coolant temperature sensor circuit. Refer to Procedure 019-019 in Section 19 of the Troubleshooting and Repair Manual for CELECT Plus™ Systems, Bulletin 3666130, or Procedure 019-019 in Section 19 of the CELECT™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666084.

 

Intake manifold temperature sensor is malfunctioning

Check the intake manifold pressure/temperature sensor. Refer to Procedure 019-059 in Section 19 of the CELECT Plus™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666130, or Procedure 019-059 in Section 19 of the CELECT™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666084.

 

Ambient air pressure sensor is malfunctioning

Check the ambient air pressure sensor. Refer to Procedure 019-135 in Section 19 of the CELECT Plus™ Systems Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666130.

 

Throttle position sensor is misadjusted or malfunctioning

Check throttle position sensor for proper adjustment and operation. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

Throttle linkage adjustment is not correct

Check the fuel pump throttle linkage adjustment. Refer to Procedure 005-035 in Section 5.

 

Engine is operating at low ambient temperature

Check the shutters and engine compartment air. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

Air intake system restriction is above specification

Check the air intake system for restrictions. Clean or replace the air filter and inlet piping as necessary. Refer to Procedure 010-031 in Section 10.

 

Exhaust system restriction

Check the exhaust system for restrictions. Refer to Procedure 011-009 in Section 11.

 

Air intake or exhaust leaks

Inspect the air intake and exhaust systems for air leaks. Refer to Procedure 010-024 in Section 10.

 

Air in the fuel system

Check for air in the fuel system. Refer to Procedure 006-003 in Section 6.

 

Vehicle parasitics are excessive

Check the vehicle for brakes dragging, transmission malfunction, cooling fan operation cycle time, and engine-driven units. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

Fuel temperature is above specification

Fill the fuel tanks. Turn off or bypass the fuel heater, if equipped. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

Fuel grade is not correct for the application or the fuel quality is poor

Operate the engine from a tank of known high quality fuel. Refer to Fuels for Cummins® Engines, Bulletin 3379001.

 

Drivetrain is not correctly matched to the engine

Check for correct gearing and drivetrain components. Make sure the propeller size is correct.

 

Intake manifold pressure (boost) is below specification

Refer to the Intake Manifold Pressure (Boost) is Below Normal troubleshooting symptom tree in Section TS.

 

Fuel supply line restriction between the fuel pump and the injectors

Check the fuel supply line from the fuel pump to the cylinder head for sharp bends that can cause restrictions. Refer to Procedure 005-060 in Section 5.

 

Engine is operating above recommended altitude

Engine power decreases above recommended altitude. Refer to the Engine Data Sheet for specifications.

 

Engine is operating above recommended altitude

Derate the engine by four percent for every 300 meters [1000 feet] of altitude above 3000 m [10,000 ft]. Refer to the OEM service manual.

 

PT fuel pump AFC operation is malfunctioning or pump is not calibrated correctly

Remove the PT® fuel pump and check the calibration. Check the AFC for proper operation. Refer to the PT® Fuel Pump Rebuild and Calibration Manual, Bulletin 3379084.

 

Injector calibration is not correct

Calibrate the injectors. Refer to Procedure 006-026 in Section 6.
