Lubricating oil level is above or below specification |
Check the oil level. Add or drain oil if necessary. Refer to Procedure 007-009 and 007-037. Check the dipstick calibration. |
Lubricating oil leak (external) |
Inspect the engine for external oil leaks. Tighten the capscrews, pipe plugs, and fittings. Replace gaskets, if necessary. Refer to Section V and the OEM specifications. |
Engine angularity during operation exceeds specification |
Refer to the engine specification data sheet. |
Lubricating oil pressure switch, gauge, or sensor is malfunctioning or is not in the correct location |
Check the oil pressure switch, gauge, or sensor for correct operation and location. Refer toProcedure 007-028. |
Lubricating oil pressure sensor or circuit is malfunctioning |
Check the oil pressure switch or circuit. Refer to the CELECT™ System Troubleshooting and Repair Manual, Bulletin 3666084. |
Lubricating oil does not meet specifications |
Use Cummins recommended lubricating oil type. Refer to the Cummins Engine Oil Recommendations, Bulletin 3810340. |
Lubricating oil is contaminated with coolant or fuel |
Refer to the Lubricating Oil Contaminated symptom tree. |
Lubricating oil filter is plugged |
Change the oil and filter. Refer to Procedures 007-037 and 007-013. |
Sensor plugged or damaged |
Check the viscosity sensor. Clean or replace if necessary. Refer to the OEM specifications. |
Lubricating oil pump signal tube is plugged or damaged |
Clean or replace the signal tube. Refer to Procedure 007-034. |
Lubricating oil pump is malfunctioning or the o-rings are damaged |
Inspect the lubricating oil pump and o-rings. Refer to Procedure 007-031. |
Lubricating oil high?pressure relief valve is malfunctioning |
Remove and inspect the high?pressure relief valve or lubricating pump pressure regulator. Refer to Procedure 007-021. |
Main oil pressure regulator is malfunctioning |
Check the main oil pressure regulator assembly. Refer to Procedure 007-029. |
Lubricating oil temperature is above specification |

Lubricating oil suction or transfer tube is loose or broken, or the gasket or o-rings are leaking |
Remove and inspect the oil pan or suction tube. Refer to Procedure 007-025. |
Piston cooling nozzles are damaged or are not installed correctly |
Check the piston cooling nozzles for damage and correct installation. Refer to Procedure 001-046. |
Lubricating oil cooler is plugged |
Check the oil cooler. Refer to Procedure 007-003. |

Analyze the oil and inspect the filters to locate an area of probable damage. Refer to Procedure 007-083. |
